The Process
The documentary filming process is to capture life as it is. This means on a wedding day noting how the sky looks, the sounds outside, the feeling of the vast array of love all in one room, the cheering of the voices of loved ones and the quiet energy in the subtle, intimate moments.
It is an authentic approach to filming the real emotions of events shared. There is no posing, no reenactments, no fake laughs— allowing all to be fully present. From the anticipation in the air of the morning to the dreamy last light that casts on the evening, the documentary process will represent distinctly how it felt to celebrate the present moment.
DIGital 4k, SUPER 8 COVERAGE, OR both
Super 8mm Film
Released by Eastman Kodak in 1965, Super 8 became one of the preferred film formats of the motion picture industry during the 1960s and 70s— alongside 35mm film. Super 8 was most widely used for filming home movies.
It remains a striking alternative format for creating videos in the dreamy use of film.
When I was in school, my art teacher taught me that in the rules of photography, you have to make a choice. The camera has a limit to the amount of light it can take in, or, its dynamic range. So, you have to expose for either the highlights or the shadows. I fell in love with the idea of letting the shadows go and seeing what gorgeous detail remains in the light, in all its many different variations. This eventually became a shooting style I adopted as I began to create short films. It is also a beautiful metaphor for how I choose to live, letting the darkness go and embracing the light.
The highlights (or in Italian, Alteluci) are what we will hold onto. What makes your walls come down and your heart open wide, what makes you laugh at the top of your lungs — these are the things I love to witness. As I film, I search for this authentic chemistry that sparks only out of your love. It is real, honest, and true to just the two of you.
I believe the very best of life is found in the moments you can’t sit still out of your own adoration. This is why I have been documenting weddings in Analog and Digital format for seven years as I’ve traveled and lived in
California, New York and Italy — to preserve the thrills of our lives.
